Ryan on abortion exceptions: Rape is just another ‘method of conception’

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan says that he personally believes that rape is just another “method of conception” and not an excuse to allow abortions.

To people who still refuse to believe that the GOP is pro-rape, I dare you to still believe that now.

TEXT:

My status:

Did you know that 8 out of the 10 poorest counties in the United States are counties that are part of reservations? And six of those are counties within the Rosebud or Pine Ridge reservations. So, I mean, let’s keep making jokes about Natives getting rich off of casino funds.

Ashley’s reply:

Well if you saw first hand the tribes we have here you might change your mind. Maybe if they would get jobs like the rest of us then they wouldnt live in poverty. they choose to sit back and let the government take care of them. And im not just assuming this, I see it first hand on a daily basis when 90% of the people in yellowstone county jail are drunk native americans. They have every opportunity, probably more than each of us, to get out of poverty but they CHOOSE not too. Im not saying this for all of them, but its true of the ones in montana

My rebuttal:

“they have every opportunity to get out of poverty” is legitimately the most blatantly false thing I have ever heard. Opportunities on reservations are SEVERELY limited. Unemployment is as high as 60% in many of those reservations and it’s not due to being lazy. It’s because job opportunities on tribal ground are extremely scarce. Employment outside of reservations is also impossible due to a lack of transportation. Seriously, Ashley, the entire post you just threw up here is FULL of racist and ignorant remarks. Government assistance available for people in the ten poorest reservations amounts to on average $3500 a year. And only about 17% of people on those reservations take it. The devastating affect of alcohol and drugs on reservations is an entire other subject that reaches back further than the creation of reservations. Reservations lack proper mental and physical health care. They’re routinely the subject of profiling from non-tribal police forces in nearby towns. The schools on reservations (usually filled with staff who are not Native with huge turn over numbers) are so poor that only 25-35% of students graduate. You can call them lazy and alcoholics and dismiss them as inferior to you, or you could actually learn something and see them as a group of people who have had to overcome HUGE burdens and setbacks throughout their history, none of which were self imposed. You can’t take a sledgehammer to somebody’s knee caps and then mock them when they finish behind you.

PREACH IT! Not to mention the devastation caused by the epidemic of sexual assault against Native women, mostly perpetrated by non-Native men.
